Announcements Galore From TGA 2024

Welcome to “Siliconera Speaks Up,” our newsletter for the site! This’ll be a summary of the past week’s anime or gaming news, a little reminder of things to come, and our insight on what games you should pick up next. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Top 10 Stories From the Past Week

Notable Mentions

  1. New Okami Sequel Is Directed by Hideki Kamiya
The presentation with the music was honestly such a memorable way to unveil the game, though “Okami Sequel” as a name is kind of funny when "Okami 2” is right there.

  2. New Onimusha Game Titled Way of the Sword
Everyone went wild at this announcement.

  3. Project Century May Be a Yakuza Ryu ga Gotoku Game Set in 1915
That early 1900s mix of Japanese and Western culture clashing was such an immaculate vibe.

  4. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is New Naughty Dog IP
Though the trailer was quite long, it was a great way to end the announcements before the final awards were given out.

  5. Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI Headed to Tekken 8
To be honest, I’ve not seen a single person happy about this one…

Speak Up Sesh

Another year, another TGA down! How did you like this year’s presentation compared to the previous ones? While it’s nice that award winners weren’t being ushered off the stage after only a few words, the overall time management of the show still felt quite strange. Considering it has to cram musical performances, game trailers, awards and speeches, and more, it’s not surprising. Some of the major award categories being shotgun announcements, like Best RPG, was still a surprise, considering how popular the genre is as a whole.

While we do have a list and breakdown of all the announcements that appeared at TGA 2024, here’s a selection of some of the most exciting ones:

  • Dispatch

  • Elden Ring Night Reign

  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PC)

  • Fumito Ueda’s Untitled Project

  • Honkai: Star Rail Amorpheus

  • Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

  • Okami Sequel

  • Onimusha Way of the Sword

  • Slay the Spire 2

  • Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

  • The Witcher 4

  • Virtua Fighter 5 Revo

  • Wuthering Waves (PS5)

  • Zenless Zone Zero Astra

Some announcements seemed better received than others. My timeline was full of people celebrating Okami and Onimusha, whereas Catly and Clive in Tekken 8 weren’t as popular. Catly just reeked of AI art, though there are a lot of mysteries surrounding its in-game engine, genre, and even its developer. As for Tekken, considering Noctis’s reception in Tekken 7, it’s hardly a surprise that reception was divided. And I think most people were expecting Tifa, between the success of the remake series and Tifa fighting with martial arts similar to the majority of the Tekken cast. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when they were discussing which Final Fantasy character to add to Tekken 8.

Other than announcements, we saw some really awesome games from this year win some awards. All of the nominees (and even ones that didn’t make it into the nominees list) are deserving, of course. But these are just some of the standout ones:

  • Astro Bot

  • Balatro

  • Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Black Myth: Wukong

  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

  • Metaphor: ReFantazio

  • Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

…And more. Funnily enough, despite them seemingly bending the rules to allow for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (a DLC for a game that didn’t even come out this year), it didn’t take home any awards. Probably because it’s a DLC.

That concludes our roundup of TGA 2024 for this year! Here’s hoping that next year’s might give more time to games rather than product placement and Muppet skits!
