Speak Up Sesh

From this week, I will start attaching a link to a spreadsheet containing all of the games that Siliconera recommends people play. There are categories that give you a general idea of what it is, between the platform and genre, as well as where to get them. This list will be updated, so keep an eye out on that!

Last week, I asked people what they planned on doing for Halloween, and the majority of people replied that they’re going to play a horror game! Same here, friend! Same here. On October 20, we published a list of classic horror games that need a remake. We listed Siren, Siren 2, Zero Escape, and Danganronpa. Those last two aren’t horror in the classic sense, but they certainly play with tropes from that genre. The Shadow Hearts series, including Koudelka and kind of excluding the third one, were JRPGs that had horror elements baked into the setting, after all, so I think some people might count those ones as potential horror games!

Speaking of which, Spike Chunsoft is having a giant Steam sale right now and when I say “giant,” I am so for real. There’s a 70% discount on The Nonary Games, for example. I bought the Team Zero Escape Bundle games separately because I didn’t realize it at the time. But it’s currently available for $31.15 CAD, which makes it a 82% discount from the original price of $171.25. This is one of those games that’s apparently just unforgettable, so if you’re like me and have been wanting to get into it, now’s the time!

While there are a lot of horror games that people recommend for the spooky season, there are two recent ones I played that I think a lot of people might like. Mouthwashing has been going viral lately, though I’m hoping that those spreading its good word aren’t spoiling any of the twists! It’s a mindblowing game that really pushes the medium, with an absolutely horrifying story. At only about two hours long depending on how difficult you find the puzzles or how much time you spend on exploring the setting, it’s not too heavy a time commitment.

My second recommendation is the Fear & Hunger series. Personally, I prefer the second one because I like ensemble stories and the QoL changes make it easier to play. These ones are a little less accessible than Mouthwashing though, since a huge part of its charm is its roguelike elements. It can be ridiculously difficult until you get your bearings so it might not be fun for everyone. Oh, also, it’s highly inappropriate so I’d really look up any potential trigger warnings if you’re worried about that.

Have fun, stay safe, and hope you have a fun rest of October!
