It's the Spooky Season (Again), Charlie Brown
Welcome to “Siliconera Speaks Up,” our newsletter for the site! This’ll be a summary of the past month’s anime or gaming news, a little reminder of things to come, and our insight on what games you should pick up next. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Speak Up Sesh
Before we start with today’s Siliconera Speaks Up, we have to get some housekeeping out of the way. First off, we’ll be reintroducing Siliconera+! For $1.99, you’ll get to browse the site without ads, as well as two bonuses above regular users. First off, Siliconera+ members will be able to participate in a monthly survey! This will give you the opportunity to tell us what stories you want us to cover. Secondly, Siliconera+ members will be automatically signed up in our monthly contest for a free PC game!
Of course, you don’t have to be a Siliconera+ member to join in the contest. Every newsletter will include a link to the contest, and signing up for the newsletter is free (as I’m sure you already know). Siliconera+ just saves you that extra time and guarantees that you’ll be entered, even if you forget to sign up. You can read more details about Siliconera+ here! The first game we’ll be giving away is the PC version of Hades 2. You can sign up for the giveaway here! We’ll be announcing the winner on the site on November 28, 2025, as well as in the November 2025 newsletter!
It’s Halloween again this year, which means it’s time to curl up with a mug of pumpkin spice latte and a horror game or two. Silent Hill f came out late September, but it’s still making waves online. I definitely recommend this game if you’re interested in playing something spooky, but not too spooky, and it makes for some great conversation if you’re hanging out with friends.
Actress Kato Konatsu, who plays and voices the main character Hinako, actually set up a YouTube channel specifically for streaming herself playing the game! She started streaming a week ago (like, on October 25) and as of the time of writing, that first stream already has 2.7 million views. It’s pretty slow going, though, and the chat has been pretty nice about her…unfamiliarity with the PS5.
If you’re looking for something with a bit more oomph, Dread Flats has been making waves on YouTube as well. This one is a bit older than Silent Hill f, having come out in early July, and so you might have already had the chance to watch or play this. It’s garnered a reputation (at least in the Japanese YouTube sphere) for being the “scariest game in 2025.” Whether it earns that moniker depends on your idea of what’s scary or not, I suppose!
For those who haven’t seen or heard of Dread Flats before, it’s a first-person Chinese horror game in which you play as a YouTuber who was paid to stay in a haunted apartment building by a viewer. Rumours say that residents in this building disappear, and a mysterious entity in the form of an old woman is at the centre of this mystery. The sound of marbles dropping onto the ground is part of the scary atmosphere. According to netizens, you’ll hear this from the pipes in older Chinese apartments, so it’s a game that can revive old childhood fears for its Chinese player base.
As for me, I’ll probably play some more No, I’m not a Human (which also came out in this September) or Iron Lung (which is OLD!). To be honest, I almost forgot about it until news about Markiplier’s movie adaptation of it reminded me. So thanks, Markiplier!
And on that note, I hope you have a wonderful Halloween and Friday!

Warner Bros’ Hello Kitty Movie Won’t Debut Until 2028 - At this point, it’s still way too early to tell if it’ll be specifically geared towards children, or more of a family-friendly adventure.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Bug That Keeps Us From Catching Pokemon Will Be Fixed - Game Freak is also going to adjust the Ranked Battle Mega Stone rewards.
Review: Little Nightmares 3 Is an Ominous Adventure - Can’t remember where I read it or who said it, but the description of “game made for streamers to play and non-streamers to watch” seems to track.
New Magic Knight Rayearth Anime Debuts in 2026 - No idea which anime season it’ll air in, though!
Mouthwashing Anya Nendoroid Can Come With 2 Bonuses - The best way to enjoy Mouthwashing is to play it yourself and not even bother looking it up on social media. Just insulate yourself from the weirdos who think fictional characters have more rights than actual living people.
Dead or Alive Series Creator Tomonobu Itagaki Has Died - Itagaki passed away at 58 years old. He was a legend who left the world much too early.
PSA: Don’t Forget to Claim Free Honkai: Star Rail 5-Star Dan Heng - The Preservation version of Dan Heng works best with his Light Cone, which you have to pull for. This is how HoYoVerse is making up for the financial loss of giving us a 5-star alt of a very popular character for free.
Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Gets a Manga and Another Live Stream - I’ll probably be playing the game and still thinking it’s a fever dream. I just can’t believe it’s actually going to come out this year.
Review: Pokemon Legends Z-A Makes Lumiose City Our Playground - How are the Pokemon in Lumiose City scarier than the feral Pokemon that were in Hisui?!
Review: Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Renews the Legend - A fantastic and nostalgic trip to a classic great.
