Speak Up Sesh

It’s the end of October, so you know what that means. Yes! Halloween! The spookiest, spoopiest season of the year. Yes, “spoopiest.” Sorry for being a millennial…

I’ve been replaying Silent Hill 2 Remake, and it has been absolutely terrible, thank you very much! I completely forgot how scary the game is after you get to Brookhaven Hospital, and it just doesn’t let up as opposed to how f and Townfall all had some segments where you could calm down and catch your breath. Yikes! Here’s hoping that the future remakes of the Silent Hill titles will keep the recent win streak with the Silent Hill franchise going. They certainly need it after years and years with nothing but pachinko news.

Aside from sales on candy and snacks in general, Halloween is usually when horror games go on sale. This is the best time to grab games that you might have saved to your wishlist, but didn’t put into your cart because it was just a bit too expensive or you weren’t sure if you wanted to play them. Steam is currently holding its Steam Scream V sale, which features games that are either genuinely horrifying or just have some spooky aesthetics to get you into the Halloween mood. So if you’re looking for a way to entertain yourself while you sip apple cider and munch on candy, Steam’s got your back.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of some of the best horror games to get during the Steam Scream V sale, which will end at 10 AM PST on November 2, 2026:

• Resident Evil Reload Collection Extra Bundle - $60.21 CAD at 86% off
This is an incredible bundle of pretty much every mainline Resident Evil game that’s on Steam, and you can get it for the mind-boggling low price of $60.20 CAD. The whole bundle would have run you $439.90. Any game in this collection would be a great game to play over Halloween weekend.

• Dead by Daylight - $10.39 CAD at 60% off
Honestly, this game is fun with friends, not really on its own. As an Identity V player, I feel obligated to recommend that, too, but it’s even more of a game to play with experienced friends. There are quite a lot of things that the in-game tutorial doesn’t teach you, so it’s best to have someone explaining them during a game.

• Don’t Starve Together - $5.77 at 66% off
Like Dead by Daylight, Don’t Starve Together is definitely a game to play with friends. Unlike DbD, there’s no real chance of playing with randos unless you want to, so it makes for a more intimate time. If you’re not feeling up to socializing, the normal Don’t Starve game, which is more for the single-player experience, is also on sale at 75% off.

• Slay the Princess - $9.39 at 60% off

A fantastic psychological horror visual novel with a haunting and memorable narrative. You can also get it as part of the Black Tabby Games Collection bundle, which comes with Scarlet Hollow. The bundle is currently 49% off, and it’ll run you $29.90 CAD.

• Silver Pines - $31.99 CAD
Silver Pines is not on sale, but as a newer game in this list, I recommend it to those who have already played the other games on this list. I found this to be a unique survival horror game thanks to its presentation, and it’s got a fantastic aesthetic that’s perfect for the dreary late October weather.

• Welcome to Elderfield - $17.30 at 20% off
Like the recently released Village in the Shade, Welcome to Elderfield is a new farming game that wants you to feel dread rather than coziness. It also features turn-based combat, making it feel like a mix between Fear & Hunger and Stardew Valley.

• The Quarry - $7.99 at 90% off
I can’t really explain what it is about The Quarry that has won my enduring love. It’s got the same narmy writing that you’d expect from Supermassive Games, but it’s so genuine that it rounds to fun instead of just plain silly. Not to sound nerdy, but I loved the UI in this game, too. The similarity that Zenless Zone Zero’s UI had to it was what immediately endeared it to me.

• Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake - $42.24 at 35% off
I’m going to be so real. I bought the Crimson Butterfly remake during this sale too, and I haven’t beaten it yet. Not just because of my hectic schedule, which is a major reason, but because it is so scary to me.

• The Dream of a Cockspur - $6.63 CAD at 20% off
A story-rich point-and-click psychological horror adventure with some serious sci-fi world-building. I also love the surreal aesthetic and usage of various artistic mediums in the cutscenes. Just an awesome-looking game.
