'Tis the Season of PSL, Horror Games, And Fall Anime
Welcome to “Siliconera Speaks Up,” our newsletter for the site! This’ll be a summary of the past week’s anime or gaming news, as well as a little reminder of things to come. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Hello and happy Friday! I had a huge introduction about how Sunday in Honkai: Star Rail garnered more likes than Firefly (the girl that you have a lot of romantic teasing moments with, no matter what gender you play as). But then it devolved into a huge thing about how gacha companies really need to keep tapping the “people who are into anime men play gacha games too” market and stop milking the waifus, and considering how contentious gacha games can be, I don’t think everyone wants to read about that!
So let’s talk about some of the other top stories from Siliconera the past week. List articles are in vogue, whether it’s due to the timing of when these stories came out or because people want to look for something to do or watch as we approach the spooky season. Cinnamoroll and Sanrio remains popular, as does Dragon Ball. But I’m a little surprised at how popular our stories on Cardcaptor Sakura merchandise got! Cardcaptor Sakura is one of those properties that has so many cute visuals (hardly surprising considering it’s from CLAMP), so I’m glad that companies are still making lots of stuff for it! The uniform lounge wear and sealing wand are definitely things I would’ve been foaming at the mouth to get back when I was really obsessed with the series.
Other stories that I chose to include in this newsletter include ones about future projects. Though I didn’t go into detail in my review on Metaphor: ReFantazio, it’s, for better or for worse, a story that really bears director Hashino’s writing style and thematic interests. It’s still quite popular though, so I’m sure that lots of people are into it. I really do hope that Hashino directs his attention onto other story beats and plot themes in a future work. He really knows how to make a game “fun,” but sometimes his stories can have some oomph in them, you know? And Gintama, of course, is always a classic. I’ve not read the original Ginpachi-sensei stuff, so I didn’t know that there was enough material for them to make a show!
Next week will be our last newsletter before Halloween. For those who like to stay in and engage in some spooky media, what do you usually like to do?
Do you prefer to spend your Halloween... |
I used to spend it at parties but you know. Life as an adult isn’t as free or easygoing as it is for a youngster. Considering Halloween isn’t exactly a national holiday and it falls on a Thursday this year, I’m sure lots of people with responsibilities and such will need to rein themselves in.
It’s definitely the perfect excuse to play some nice and spooky games though! Worshippers of Cthulhu, for example, will be available for purchase on October 21. And it seems like a game for people who enjoy stuff like Civilization, as well as Lovecraftian horror. The demo is out now for people who are on the fence.
See you next week!
