This week, the majority of the top stories focused on merchandise. Are we looking at things we want to buy when Black Friday comes around? Or are we preparing Christmas gifts early this year? In any case, the end of the year is the perfect time for shopping! Lots of storefronts have been offering discounts or special promotions these days as we start to approach the holiday season.
One of those storefronts is Crunchyroll, which is having a holiday sale! Over 1,870 different items are part of this promotion, including figures, Blu-Rays, and manga. This makes it the perfect time to purchase that figure that was too expensive, or collect that series you wanted to immortalize in your home. Some of my personal recommendations include the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Blu-Ray box set, the Fate/Zero complete Blu-Ray box set, and the Katsushika Hokusai figure. Discounts really depend on the item. For example, the Katsushika Hokusai figure I mentioned is now $188.78 from $294.98, meaning it’s around 36% off. Meanwhile, this One Piece Gum Gum Fruit otaku lamp is a whopping $9.99 from $34.99. That means, for a limited time, you can purchase it for 71% off.
We haven’t really discussed it on this site yet, but there are some pop culture Christmas ornaments you can start considering as well. I don’t set up a Christmas tree anymore (I don’t even own one anymore), but they’re so un-seasonal that you can probably hang them up from your rear view mirror or something as well. My personal favorites are this one of Celeste from Animal Crossing (because it’s cute) and this one of Sonic collecting rings. This ornament actually lights up and moves, complete with sound effects. As you can imagine though, it’s significantly more expensive than a regular ornament.
Everything turning digital has its own set of faults, but sometimes I do wonder if employees at places like Target and Walmart prefer things this way. When I was in elementary and high school, I often saw news stories about how shopper stampedes would occur on Black Friday as people descended upon hapless stores to swarm around coffee machines and Wii consoles. There have even been incidents where people died as a result of these stampedes. In recent years, there aren’t as many news stories about injuries or such as a result of them, likely thanks to the prevalence of online shopping. Hopefully, this year will be nice and peaceful.
